Meta Ads vs Google Ads: Which One Is Better for Leads?

Are your customers already looking for what you sell, or do they not know they need it yet?
That one distinction tells you almost everything.
Google Ads: You Capture Demand That Already Exists
When someone searches "interior designer Colombo" or "chartered accountant Sri Lanka," they already know what they want. Google Ads puts you in front of that intent at the exact moment it happens.
That's the whole advantage. High intent, immediate need, ready to act.
The downside: if nobody's searching for your product or service, there's no demand to capture. You're bidding on nothing. And in competitive categories, CPCs can get expensive fast.
Best for: Services people actively search for. Law firms, medical practices, education, home services, travel, automotive, B2B software.
Meta Ads: You Create Demand That Doesn't Exist Yet
acebook and Instagram let you reach people based on who they are, demographics, interests, behaviours, not what they're searching for right now. You're interrupting their scroll and making them aware of something they weren't looking for.
That means more friction before a conversion, but it also means you can reach audiences at scale that Google simply can't touch. And with the right creative and funnel, Meta can generate leads at a lower cost per result than Google in many categories.
The downside: lead quality can be lower if the funnel isn't built properly. Someone who searched for your service is warmer than someone who saw an ad between reels.
Best for: B2C products, e-commerce, real estate, financial products, events, lifestyle brands, and any business where visual storytelling drives purchase decisions.
So Which One Should You Run?
When people are actively searching for your service, use ššØšØš š„š ššš¬.
When you need more lead volume at a lower CPL, use šššš ššš¬.
When your product or service needs explanation, emotion, lifestyle appeal, or aspiration, use šššš ššš¬.
For high-ticket B2B services with clear search intent, use ššØšØš š„š ššš¬.
When you want to retarget people across the full funnel, use both ššØšØš š„š ššš¬ and šššš ššš¬.
With a tight budget and only one channel to choose, use the platform your audience already uses to find solutions.
The businesses that win consistently run both, Google capturing active demand, Meta building it. One fills the pipeline now, the other builds it over time.
But if you're forced to choose one, go where your customer's head is at when they're closest to making a decision. That's usually the right answer.
One More Thing
The platform matters less than the strategy behind it. We've seen Google Ads accounts burning LKR 200,000/month with zero conversion tracking. We've seen Meta campaigns generating leads at LKR 300 a pop with the right creative and funnel architecture.
The channel is the vehicle. Strategy is the engine.
If you want to know which makes more sense for your specific business, let's talk.
